1) Should I rent an LCD projector from a local Las Vegas company or should I call a large national company for my projector rentals? We believe it’s best to rent
an LCD projector from a company based in the city where your
event is taking place – whether you are in Las Vegas or
another city. In dealing with a Las Vegas based rental
company you have the advantage of talking face to face with
the owners of the LCD projector who will know all the
operating details of the projector. Also, if the bulb burns
out in the projector, the local rental company should have a
replacement projector available immediately; a burned out
bulb in a projector rented from a national company would be
a major dilemma. Finally, renting a projector from a local
rental company allows a company representative to help with
the projector setup. You can set up the LCD projector and
attach it to the projector’s signal source and make sure
everything is working properly before the delivery person
leaves. We recommend a national company for your rentals
only if you have unusual requirements and only the national
rental company has the particular LCD projector you need. No one LCD projector fits all
situations. All LCD projector rental companies should ask
you several questions before making a recommendation on the
appropriate projector for your situation. The most important
questions are: a) how large is the audience or how large of
a room will the projector be used in? b) What are the
lighting conditions of the room? Can you manually adjust the
lighting in the room? The larger the audience and the
brighter the room conditions, the brighter bulb you will
need in the projector for a clear picture. Most projector rental
companies carry LCD projectors in their inventory instead of
DLP projectors. When the two types of projectors were
introduced to the market, DLP projectors were much more
expensive than LCD projectors. Since that time, the price of
DLP projectors has come down significantly relative to the
cost of LCD projectors with similar features. The top
technical experts in the world still debate which of the two
is the best projector for various situations. The experts
admit there are no simple answers. We agree and tell our
clients that either projector will do an acceptable job for
virtually all presentations. This is a common problem with many possible causes. We will share the two most frequent solutions: a) turn off and restart your laptop. During the startup process the laptop will search for attached devices and should discover the LCD projector connected to the video port. If this does not take care of the problem then b) Press the Fn key on the lower left hand side of the laptop keyboard and the appropriate function key ( F1 – F12) on the top row of the keyboard at the same time. The appropriate function key to press is different for different makes and models of laptops, but it usually has the letters LCD/CRT or the picture of a monitor and a laptop. This keystroke sequence tells the laptop to send a signal to the video port of the laptop. Usually you will now have a picture being projected from the projector and a blank computer screen. If you press the Fn key with the same function key a second time you should have a picture showing on both the laptop screen and the projection screen. Pressing the Fn key and the function key a third time results in a picture showing only on the laptop. If after trying solution a) and b) the picture is still not being projected you should call your LCD projector rental company for other solutions. 1) Should I rent the plasma monitor from a local Las Vegas company or should I call a larger national company for my plasma rentals? We believe it’s best to rent
equipment from a rental company based in the city where your
convention or business meeting is taking place – whether you
are in Las Vegas or another city. When your event brings you
to Las Vegas, by renting plasma screens from a Las Vegas
based rental company, you have the advantage of dealing face
to face with the owners of the plasma. You also avoid
shipping costs, the danger of shipping damage, and the risk
of the plasma being lost in transit or arriving late. If
there is a problem with the plasma screen delivered, a local
rental company should have a replacement plasma screen
readily available. National rental companies have difficulty
replacing “out of town” rental plasma monitors on a timely
basis. Local rental companies can respond more quickly to
customer needs than national rental companies. In Las Vegas
most plasma rental companies are available 24 hours a day.
If you have an issue that comes up after 5:00 PM while
setting up your booth, you can still talk with a live person
in Las Vegas instead of leaving a voice mail with a large
national company based in Chicago, New York, or Los Angeles.
In today’s fast moving convention world an answer tomorrow
is many times too late. If you do not know what plasma monitor to rent, here are some questions you need to discuss with the sales representative of the rental company you are considering: 1) Where will the plasma be mounted? (table, wall, or pole stand) 2) If the plasma is to be wall mounted, how much weight will the wall support? 3) Where will the audience viewing the plasma be standing? 4) What is the resolution of the signal being sent to the plasma? 5) What screen ratio (4:3 or 16:9) is best for the plasma? 6) What is the budget for renting a plasma? 7) What is the signal source and what cables are needed to connect to the plasma? 8) What size plasma was used in the last show? How did it work? 9) Does the plasma screen need speakers?
